Super Easy Ways to Protect Houseplants From Pests

If you are a fan of trees and plants, then all of you will like the green garden. Usually, plant enthusiasts bring plants from outside and plant them in their gardens or pots in their homes. Greenery not only looks good but also has many health benefits. Plants release a lot of oxygen and keep the body healthy. But many times, despite taking proper care of plants, their leaves start turning yellow and their roots start drying, one of the main reasons is insects in the plants.

Many times, due to lack of complete information, people take care of plants properly, but the insects in the plants not only damage the plants but also the soil of the garden or pot. Use of Cinnamon Powder

Cinnamon is not just a garam masala but it is also known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. You can use cinnamon powder to protect young, young plants. If you see insects, then sprinkle cinnamon powder on the plants. By using this, the soil of plants is also pest free.

Use of Hing (asafetida) Water

Add hing mixed with water, just a pinch of hing can keep your plants safe from insects. Yes, for this you only have to put a pinch of hing in a glass of water and leave it for about 2 to 3 hours. After this, you can filter the water and use it on the plants.

Use of Egg Shells

Due to the moisture in the soil, sometimes small sized snails or crawling insects occur in pots or plants, which completely destroy the plants. If such insects are present in your garden too, then add powdered eggshell powder to it. For this, clean the eggshells thoroughly and prepare the powder and mix it in the soil. This keeps the garden’s crawling insects or snails away.

Use of Turmeric

If there are insects in your plants or in the soil, then mixing turmeric powder in the soil acts like a pesticide and the insects are killed. For this, if you are taking 10 kg of soil, then mix 20 grams of turmeric in it. Then mix that soil with all the plants. Spraying turmeric water on the leaves and roots of plants also acts as an insecticide.

Use of Baking Soda

If you have white bugs on your plants and flowers that look like wax, these insects are called mealy bugs. Especially the chances of getting mealybugs on the potted hibiscus, roses, etc. are more. To get rid of them, mix a pinch of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of shampoo, and 2-3 drops of neem oil in a liter of water and sprinkle it on your plants. In a few days, your problem will be solved. On some vegetables like tomato, brinjal, beans, okra, etc., they also take early. As soon as one or two insects appear on a plant, use this spray immediately.

Neem Leaves Water

Neem leaves have innumerable benefits. These are pesticides. You can also keep neem leaves between grains and clothes. If your plant has been infected with insects, then you can boil neem leaves and pour its water into the root of the plant every week. If you want, you can also spray boiled neem water on the plants.

Use of Garlic Cloves

Often the leaves of plants are infested with leaf-eating caterpillars or insects, which damage the entire plant. To prevent them, you can use garlic in plants, for this, take half a cup of chopped or crushed garlic and mix it in a liter of water and keep it for 1 to 2 hours. Filter this water and fill it in a spray bottle and spray it on the plants. Plants will get rid of insects very soon by using them.

Neem Leaves Powder

If the soil of your pot or garden has been infested with termites or other insects, which are harming the soil and plants, then dry the neem leaves and prepare a powder and mix it in the soil. By doing this termites and other insects will be destroyed and the soil will also become more fertile.

Avoid Over Watering

One of the biggest factors that attract insects to houseplants is an excess of soil moisture. Since these pests prefer to lay their eggs within moist soil, an overwatered houseplant can quickly begin to host an infestation of insects. Over-watering the plants can harm the plants. Plants should be watered only when the soil feels dry to the touch.

Use of Soap Water

If your plants are infested with pests, an easy, natural remedy is to use soap water that can help you get rid of the pests. A mixture of dish detergent and tap water can help remove spider mite and aphid infestations from your houseplants.

Use of Vinegar

If wild plants or grasses often grow in your garden or in pots, which hinder the growth of your plants, then use vinegar. Mix half a cup of vinegar in a liter of water and sprinkle on these wild plants, they will dry out in a few days. Be careful not to pour vinegar into the soil, as it can damage the roots of other plants.

Plant inspection while buying plants

Many times when we buy plants, we are not able to observe the insects properly at that time. Due to this insects enter the house from one plant and start harming other plants as well. Always keep an eye out for mottled or discolored leaves, undersides of leaves, and a black, sticky substance, in addition to yellowing leaves and fallen plants, before bringing them indoors. If an infected plant is brought indoors, the pests can quickly spread to other healthy houseplants.
