Broadly classified, plants are divided into two categories- flowering and non-flowering plants. Plants include trees, herbs, shrubs, grasses, vines, ferns, mosses, and familiar types such as green algae. Most of the plants grow in the ground and some float on water.

Parts of a plant / एक पौधे के भाग
A plant is made up of many parts. The main parts of the plant are seeds, roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. Each part does its job to keep the plant green and alive. The roots of the plant absorb water and minerals from the soil and bind the plant to the ground so that the plant stands in the ground and the stem of the plant supports the plant above the ground and carries water and minerals to the leaves. The function of leaves is also to collect energy from the sun which works to make food for the plant using a process called photosynthesis.

Seeds / बीज
The seed is the main part of the plant and the seed itself contains all the plant material that can grow into its other plant. This plant material is called the embryo. All seeds are covered with a protective seed sheath and contain one or two cotyledons. Cotyledons are food for the baby plant until it can make its own food from light and are often the plant’s first embryonic leaves.

Roots/ जड़े
The important function of plant roots is to hold the plant in the soil so that the plant can stand and absorb the nutrients and water which are essential for all plants.

Stems / तना
The stem is the top part of the plant that is above the soil. The stem supports the plant and the stem serves as a transport system for the plant’s nutrients, water, sugar, and starch. The process of photosynthesis can happen in the stem of some plants such as cacti, celery, asparagus, and banana.

Leaves / पत्ते
Leaves are one of the main parts of the plant where photosynthesis usually takes place and food is made for the plant. Leaves contain chlorophyll, a green substance that captures light energy and then uses it to convert water and carbon dioxide into plant food and oxygen.

Flowers are the reproductive organs of plants. Flowers have petals and fragrance that attracts butterflies, bees, and other insects. Most flowers have four main parts: the petal, the stamen (anther and filament), the pistil (stigma, style, and ovary), and the sepals. After the flowers are pollinated and fertilized, they produce seeds in the ovary of the flower.

Fruit / फल
Fruits in plants are fleshy substances that usually enclose seeds. They protect the seeds and attract organisms to eat them. The fleshy material helps in seed dispersal. There are seeds inside the fruit

How do Plants Grow? / पौधे कैसे बढ़ते हैं ?
Plants mostly grow from seeds, which live for days, months, or even years. The seed contains some food and a protective layer around the embryo from which a seedling develops. The right temperature, dark and moist conditions help the seed germinate. First, the roots begin to grow downward and make the plant immobile. The small tender plant starts growing upwards towards the sunlight and the roots start growing downwards. Eventually, the plant produces a stem and leaf. In this way gradually the plant gets bigger.

Pollination / परागन
In order for plants to reproduce and form seeds, they need to transfer pollen grains from one plant to another. Plants can obtain pollen from the same type of plant or species to produce seeds. Brightly colored plants and flowers attract small animals or insects that act as pollen carriers. Also known as pollinators, these pick up pollen and carry it from one plant to another. In general, most plants can be wind-pollinated, while some rely on bees and butterflies. When butterflies visit flowers, pollen sticks to their bodies and carries them to the next flower.

Carnivorous Plants / नरभक्षी पादप
Some plants are eaten by animals. When soils are thin and nutrient deficient, plants turn to other sources. Growing carnivorous plants, such as the Venus flytrap, have mobile parts to trap their prey (small animals including frogs), while others attract food onto a sticky surface with their scent. Parasitic plants are present in almost every biome, some plants are parasitic and obtain most of their nutrients from other plants. Parasitic plants have modified roots that enter the conductive system of the host plant and obtain water and nutrients from the host.
