Religious importance of Shami Plant

The Shami tree has a special place in Hinduism, it has been described in both Ramayana and Mahabharata. It is mentioned in the Ramayana that when Lord Rama had performed a havan in the victory muhurta before the war on Lanka, the Shami tree became a witness to it and Lord Shri Ram also worshiped this Shami plant before attacking Lanka. Similarly, in the Mahabharata, when Arjuna took the form of Brihannala during his exile, he hid his Gandiva bow on the Shami tree. In the battle of Virat Nagar, the Kauravas were forced to flee alone by taking out Gandiva from here. Shami leaves are also used in the worship of Lord Ganesha and Durga Maa.
