Plant of Katsaraiya (Piyabasa or Vajradanti):

Barleria prionitis is known by many names in India. It is known all over the country by the names of Pitsairayak, Kurantak, Katsareya, Piyabansa, Kantajati, Daskaranta, Kantaserio and Vajradanti. It is also called Yellow Vajradanti in many places, because its use is beneficial in various diseases related to teeth and gums. Vajradanti is made up of two words, Vajra meaning diamond and Danti meaning tooth. It literally means, a herb that makes teeth strong like a diamond. It is found in all the tropical parts of India. It is 60-150 cm high, thorny, bushy, multi-branched shrub. Katsaraiya is white, blue or purple, red and yellow, there are four types. Due to the easily available yellow flowered Katsaraiya everywhere, it is often used by the medicinal.

Outer Forms of Katsaraiya (Piyabasa or Vajradanti)

Piyabasa’s shoots are prickly, 60-150 cm high, branches emerge from the root. The letters are initially long, short, arranged in a pointed order and the leaves are shorter. Pairs of thorns emerge from between the leaves and branches. Flowers are small, bell-shaped with a reddish yellow color. Fruit seeds or dodi are also thorns. Dodi 1 inch long, sticky, bilobed, each seed cell contains 1-1 seed.
