Sunderlal Bahuguna, Born in 1927 near Tehri, Uttarakhand. He was one of the Pioneering and inspiring leaders of the environmental movement in India. He idolizes Mahatma Gandhi’s satyagraha and non-valence revolutions.

He started the Chipko movement against deforestation, which spread all over the Garhwal region and across Uttarakhand. Chipko movement was unique as members of this have to movement hugged the trees (Chipko means Hug or getting close in Hindi) to prevent them from being axed.

To protect our mother nature, he has shown us the power of the Chipko movement which people have been using across the country and all over the even today. Sundarlal Bahuguna died of COVID19 at AIIMS on 22 May 2021, at Rishikesh but before resting in peace, he inspired us to stay close and take care of our beautiful nature. May his soul Rest in peace.
