Munnar is indeed known as a honeymooner’s paradise, but what’s lesser known is the magical transformation in August, blanketing the green meadows with a mesmerising lavender-coloured carpet of flowers known as Neelakurinji. This rare flowering plant thrives in the Shola grasslands of the Western Ghats. This enchanting natural phenomenon occurs just once every twelve years. The last time the Neelakurinji flower bloomed in India was in 2018, which means the next bloom is expected in 2030.
