Areca Palm Plants : Grow, Care and its Benefits

Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens) is a plant that gives more oxygen when kept indoors. Spring is the best time to plant areca palms and the plant grows slowly. This plant is not only beautiful in appearance and it also has many benefits for health. It is also considered very good according to Vastu. Areca palm is a good indoor plant that can be kept anywhere in the house to enhance the beauty of the house. Areca palm plant can be kept both indoors and outdoors. Areca palms can grow up to 10 – 30 feet tall when planted outdoors, but indoors, areca palms can reach up to 10 feet in height. This plant is grown in India, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Malaysia and other Asian countries.

Grow new Plants Yourself:

If you have a plant of areca palm that is two to three years old, then you can prepare a new plant yourself. You should see that it should have at least eight to ten stems of leaves. Take out the plant and with the help of a large knife, carefully separate the plant from the root by cutting it into two halves. After doing a little pruning of the roots, plant both the plants in separate pots.

How to Grow Areca Palm From Seed

You can also plant Areca Palm plant from seeds. If you are planting a plant from seed, then wet the seed with water and sprout it and then plant it in a pot. Orange-colored seeds generally have a better germination rate than new, green seeds. Seeds take about six weeks to germinate

Areca palm plants are easy to care for, but there are some common problems with areca palms, such as yellowing or browning of leaves. Cold air, overwatering, underwatering, poor soil conditions or compacted roots

How to Care  Areca Palm

Water

The Areca Palm plant should not be given much water, give water only when the soil of the top one to two inches of the pot dries up. The roots of this plant rot due to excessive watering. Usually it is right to water it after 10 to 15 days, but keep checking the soil in between. Avoid giving salty or salty water, as this will kill the plant.

Light

Do not let the direct rays of the sun fall on this plant, it burns the leaves. A couple of hours of early morning sunlight will not cause problems, but protect the plant from subsequent sunlight.

Fertilizer

Once a year, two inches of soil can be removed from the top and mixed with equal amount of manure, you can put it again in pots. Before fertilizing the plant, keep in mind that excessive salt content can lead to leaf spots. Apart from this, in the summer season, organic liquid fertilizer must also be added. Do not fertilize during the winter season.

Soil

A well-draining pot is ideal for areca palm plants. You plant the plant by mixing sand and compost with dry soil. Its roots grow rapidly, so plant this plant in a pot that is twice as large as its root. For good growth, re-pot after one year and fill the pot with new soil.
