Earth Day in the United Nations is celebrated every year on the day of March Equinox. Equinox means that time of year when day and night are equal and this day is usually March 21. The tradition was founded by peace activist John McConnell. Earth Day was celebrated on a large scale for the first time on 22 April 1970 to make people sensitive towards the environment at the global level. Since then it has been decided to celebrate this day on 22nd April every year.
