There are more than 100 species of Tulsi plant in the world. On the basis of their respective regional religious beliefs, many species of Tulsi are popular, which are also known by many local and common names like in Sanskrit language it is named as Ram Tulsi and Krishna Tulsi. It is known as Trittavu in Malayalam, Tulsa in Marathi, Tulsi in Tamil and Telugu.

Classification of Plants/ पौधों का वर्गीकरण

Tulsi plant grows in the form of a bush, its height is about 1-3 feet and the leaves are 1-2 inches long, oval or rectangular, which is also fragrant. There are also two species of basil leaves - Shri Tulsi whose leaves are green. And Krishna Tulsi (or Shyama Tulsi) whose leaves are blue-purple in color. The leaves and branches of Shri Tulsi are white while the leaves of Krishna Tulsi are of dark color. The flowers are small, purple and the inflorescence is about 12-14 cm long. are long. The fruits are small, smooth and reddish-brown in color; the seeds are small, oval, flat, yellow in color with red or black spots.

History / इतिहास

It is believed that Tulsi (plant) was a girl in her previous birth, whose name was Vrinda. Vrinda was born in a demon clan and Vrinda was a devotee of Lord Vishnu since childhood. When she grew up, her marriage was also completed with the demon king Jalandhar in the Rakshasa clan itself. Shaligram form of Lord Vishnu and Mata Tulsi are married on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Some people also do Tulsi marriage on Dwadashi. Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Vishnu does not accept Bhog without Tulsi.

Tulsi leaves are considered more beneficial in terms of medicinal use. You can also eat basil leaves by plucking them directly from the plant. Basil seeds also have many benefits. Seeds and leaves can also be used by making powder. Consuming basil has digestive power, appetite-enhancing and blood-purifying properties. The benefits of basil leaves are very beneficial in fever, heart diseases, abdominal pain, malaria and bacterial infections etc. Shyam Tulsi is considered to be prominent in medicinal properties as compared to Ram Tulsi.

Tulsi plant grows well in all types of soil. Plant it in such a place where water drains easily and does not stop, the month of April is right for planting Tulsi plant, water should be given immediately after planting it, it will be better if applied at the time of evening.

Do not plant Tulsi plant only in the soil, if you mix 70% soil, 20% sand in it, it will be better and if 10% cow dung dry powder is mixed then it works as a very good manure. Pinching on Tulsi plant is very important. it occurs. Pinching means plucking off the topmost leaves. This is so that the plant does not grow only from the top but also starts growing from its other leaves.
